Themed Team Challenges

Howdy guys. So, some of you may have noticed my thread from a little while back that touched on the subject of themed teams and how to make them a decent force to be reckoned with. If you missed the thread, you can recap on things here...

Anyways, a quick summary of what was discussed is this...
Members from a forum I occasionally visit learned of my move in to PokeMMO. After knowing that I was looking at the competitive scene, they started to fire challenges and dares at me. The biggest one was to create a competitive team made up of only Bug Type pokemon. After discussing the bug types and their capabilities in my thread, a team was decided and put forward to the group that had made the original challenge. After some minor discussion, they were impressed. That is when two more challenges were brought up, with a slight change in rules.


So here we are.
Challenge #1

Must haves:

• Create a team out of six Poison Pokemon (This should include mostly Poison Typed Pokemon)
  
• No two pokemon can be of the same species (evolutions count as separate pokemon)
  

Side Notes:

• Pokemon should be fairly competitive, but don't have to be top class champions (so they need to be strong, but don't have to dominate the Metagame, as they most likely won't)
  

Challenge #2

Must haves:

• Create a team out of six Normal Typed Pokemon
  
• No two pokemon can be of the same species (evolutions count as separate pokemon)
  

Side Notes:

• Pokemon should be fairly competitive, but don't have to be top class champions (so they need to be strong, but don't have to dominate the Metagame, as they most likely won't)
  

One thing that I got them to allow me is the use of Blissey in both teams, as long as Blissey has the move Toxic.

So, what I am thinking for the poison team (which in my mind is the more difficult one of the two) is obviously Blissey and Gengar, then possibly Muk and Weezing, but I am not sure. I have never used either Weezing or Muk, so I can't really tell.

For the second team, it gets a little easier due to many pokemon having normal typing as either a primary or secondary. Of course, Blissey is a must here. I have also contemplated Ursaring. For a flying pokemon, I am torn between Fearow and Pidgeot, as I never use either of them, so I am not sure how they are in the metagame. Past that though I am stuck.

So, as with last time, this whole thing is now up for discussion.

Ok; First off,


Special sweeper

Crobat.
Nature; Adamant
EV spread; 252 ATK, 252 speed.
Moveset; Toxic, Confuse ray,Air cutter, Poison fang.

Ok, so Evesa has determined a rather nice team that I personally want to run, but now we have to brainstorm attacks, natures, so on.

Crobat - Already determined above

Gengar - Not done

Venusaur - Not done

Weezing - Not Done

Blissey - Bold, 252 Hp, 252 Def, (Toxic, Seismic Toss, Softboiled, Psychic)

Nidoking - Not Done


Alright, so let's see if we can find the ups and downs of these, and try to make this team somewhat competitive.

Venasaur should be a leech seeder, or a sunny day user?

Maybe even a swords dance user. Idk. Gengar I would suggest sub/punch/thunder/gigadrain

The other are easily determined

Venasaur should be a poisoner and a leech seeder and part wall.

Actually, that is what I went with Evesa. And for the last two, I was thinking razor leaf for one. And then we will see what comes up.

Or moreover giga drain for that extra drainage of hp, it will really start to stack once you get leech seed up. Does he get stun spore? If he does that could be useful with leech seed too so he can really stall while going first, theres my two cents

So Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, and stun spore? Well, I was thinking I could replace Stun Spore with Sleep Powder, but that would leave him with one less attack during the sleep clause, so that could be a problem.

Alright, so now I just need to figure out natures and stuff for Weezing and Gengar, as well as everything else for Nidoking, of which is adamant nature ideally.

Also, I am going to put this out there, but if anyone ever finds a Koffing/Weezing or a Nidoran(m)/Nidorino/Nidoking that is shiny and has either a decent nature or decent IVs, please let me know. I want to find these pretty damn bad as they are freaking cool.

EDIT: Also, Evesa has figured out Nidoking.

Progress Report...

Blissey, Venusaur, and Crobat are completed, each being fully EV trained.

I am hunting for Nidorino right now in the safari zone (so that I can egg farm at the same time, lol). After I find a good one and EV train him, then I will move on to Weezing. Gengar will be my last one.

Also, I am currently in the need of a toxic tm or two. If you have one and want to trade it off, let me know and we will find some offers.

Evesa, do you think this Nidoran will work for my Nidoking?



And what EVs do you think I should work on for him? I was thinking ATK was one of them. But I couldnt decide what else. Was thinking Speed, but wasnt sure.

Now I also need to start planning Gengar and Weezing as I am trying to figure out which one to start farming next.

EDIT: Also, been thinking Timid for Gengar's nature. I am not too experienced in competitive pokemon, but timid sounds like the best combination for him, at least in my mind. I am not looking at finding Weezing's nature, so I may update this again soon.

Yes a tidgy bit low SP.ATK but apart from that its great. also its not very fast and its more meant for a wall, so i'd say 252 ATK, 128 DEF and 64 HP & 64 SP.DEF

Alright, that is pretty much what I had planned.

Also, I have begun searching for Ghastly. I was thinking timid, but not sure.

How would you personally set up a gengar? I have never done gengar before.

On that note, I have never tried Weezing before either, so I guess I should get to work on him as well.

Focus punch gengar is a very good pokemon so it is not completely walled by Blissey/snorlax/regice.

The reason I say that is because when they switch in, go for a focus punch and they are done to half hp with a few attack ev investments. So I suggest lonely/naive/hasty for nature

So, a good point was brought up today and I think I should bring it up here as well. Right now, my team has an immense weakness to Psychic (that is a given for poisons) and Steel (due to them being immune to poisoning). Now, to test out some of my pokemon, I ran the elite four with a level 42 crobat, 60 blissey, and 52 venusaur. Just those three. They seriously didnt go below half health until lance, and then were slaughtered by gary's zam. Now, crobat is now level 53, blissey is 67, and venusaur is the same, but I am still scared of that Alakazam due to how easily he trounced me.

So my goal now is to bring in a move or two to counter these. Now, I am not sure if any of these pokemon are able to use Fire Blast/Flamethrower, but I think that could really help. Then I am stuck with figuring out the psychic typing. This generation didnt really have any significant dark type TMs as far as I know. Dark typing didnt really start to get much love until late gen 4 and big time in gen 5.
